A Microtonal Tempo Canon Generator After Nancarrow and Jaffe
نویسنده
چکیده
A composition system for tempo canons is described which implements mensural and acceleration canon as explored by Conlon Nancarrow, and sinusoidal oscillation canon as introduced by David Jaffe. The work has the capacity for microtonal melodies in up to eight voices, with substitutable modules for the synthesis and the algorithmic composition of the canon fundamental line. With a user interface to assist exploration, the system can be used as a research tool, or as a generative piece in its own right.

Modeling and Simulation: the Spectral Canon for Conlon Nancarrow by James Tenney
This paper presents an approach for the analysis of musical pieces, based on the notion of computer modeling. The thorough analysis of musical works allows to reproduce compositional processes and implement them in computer models, opening new perspectives for the their exploration through the simulation and generation of variations derived from the original model.
متن کاملP-142: Effects of A Synthetic Antioxidant (4-Hydroxy Tempo) Additive to The Semen Extender on the Ejaculated Spermatozoa Characteristics before and after Freezing in Water Buffaloes (Bubalus Bubalis)
Background: Semen cryopreservation is the most important section of artificial insemination programs; it allows preservation of semen fertility for a long time. Materials and Methods: The aim of the present study was to detect the effect of in vitro supplementation of 4-hydroxy Tempo on fresh and frozen spermatozoa quality of buffalo bulls. Five healthy buffalo bulls (5 ejaculates from each bul...
متن کاملMicrotonal Notation: LilyPond as a score editor for Bohlen-Pierce Scales
Composers working with microtonal systems face a unique challenge: the difficult task of notating non-twelve-tone pitches on a standard staff system. A consideration of the scores of Carillo, Haba and Blackwood demonstrate that a turnkey notation solution for all microtonal scales may never be found, but customised individual systems can be of great benefit to the composer and to the performer....
متن کاملThe Use of Ratios in the Player Piano Studies of Conlon Nancarrow
The forty-nine Studies for player piano by Conlon Nancarrow are pervaded by the use of mathematical ratios, particularly ratios based on intervals found in the justly-tuned scale. Nancarrow found a remarkable variety of ways in which to deploy ratios in his Studies. The most obvious and pervasive use is in the establishment of different simultaneous tempos related by ratios as simple as 3:4 to ...
متن کاملHow Different Are Our Perceptions of Equal-Tempered and Microtonal Intervals? A Behavioural and EEG Survey
For listeners familiar with Western twelve-tone equal-tempered (12-TET) music, a novel microtonal tuning system is expected to present additional processing challenges. We aimed to determine whether this was the case, focusing on the extent to which our perceptions can be considered bottom-up (psychoacoustic and primarily perceptual) and top-down (dependent on familiarity and cognitive processi...
